Evil Vicious Cats and 65 degree weather

So today as I pondered that we've been into the new year just about a week now, I realized "dang, what a GREAT start I got off to". Just to clarify, I'm being sarcastic. Not even a day after new years, I got one of the nastiest colds ever (thankfully, this one wasn't too bad as far as runny noses go, but in every other respect, NASTY), and as if that and taking three days of my paid time off the first three days of the year wasn't fun enough, I was blessed the following choice experience: Somehow, the little white devil that lives in my house decided that he was going to make a break for it during the split second that no one was watching the open door (anyone who knows me knows I am ultra-vigilant about this) and took off. Now, Heather, in her cold-induced coma, was unaware of little white devil's fast break, and so noticed the absence later that night. Well, no big deal, he's been out before, right? He knows how to take care of himself. No worry, I'll just get him in the morning. The next day (finally roused myself from the cold-induced coma) I went out in the chilly morning and called and called to see hide or hair of the dear little darling-but to no avail. By the third day, I was a little worried (okay, I was in tears and hanging up "Missing Cat" flyers) and so decided to canvas the neighborhood. The first door I knock on was a nice lady informing that, Oh, yes, she had seen that cat just last night in her back yard. He's under her shed. Sure enough, White Devil was sitting quite comfortably under the old building. After a few moments of thankfulness at his safety and trying to persuade him out with pepperoni, mommy got mad at her dear little white devil. A chase ensued with the nice neighbor jumping boldy and courageously over fences of other unsuspecting neighbors. After a fifteen minute pursuit, we decided enough was enough. (Long story short, as of press time, White Devil is still at large. Any information leading to the capture and impounding of said suspect should be forwarded). All this lively activity led to a set back in my already I'm-gonna-hang-in-there-forever cold. I'll admit, that sunday was nice, but that evening, due to a very unfortunate accident, Lily, the other occupant of the household, passed away. All in all, I'm thinking this year is shaping up to be a fine one. And I guess as long as the balmy 65 degree weather hangs around (yes, that's right, I said 65 degrees) White Devil is bound to stay outside and my sinuses are bound to continue giving me trouble. Yes, bring it on, 2008- I think now I'm ready for just about anything.
